Key Elements
Strategically located for community access; Dedicated, flexible spaces for serving clients; Designed with future expansion in mind
Diversion Hub, a multi-agency network, plays a vital role in supporting low-level offenders impacted by the criminal legal system in Oklahoma County. Through evidence-based programs, the organization helps reduce recidivism and provides individuals with the resources they need to move forward. As demand for its life-changing services grew, so did the need for a larger, more supportive space. Funded by Oklahoma City’s MAPS 4 initiative, REES designed a modern, expansive facility that triples Diversion Hub’s previous footprint, allowing the organization to better serve its clients and community partners.
A 35,600-Square-Foot Solution for Greater Impact
Strategically located near bus stops and Oklahoma City’s growing bike lane network, the new 35,600-square-foot building enhances accessibility for clients. This spacious facility is home to a network of partner agencies that collaborate on-site to offer critical services. Clients can gather support and resources for justice navigation, peer support, workforce assistance, housing, family services and behavioral health care. By addressing the root causes of legal involvement, Diversion Hub fosters smoother reintegration into the community after incarceration.
Client-Centered Design: Welcoming and Supportive
The facility’s design is centered around creating a welcoming and calming atmosphere. Upon entering the ground floor, clients are greeted by a comfortable, light-filled lobby featuring clerestory windows, an open stairway and warm wood accents. The space is intentionally designed to feel residential rather than institutional, helping to immediately de-escalate and comfort visitors. Various seating options strategically break up the lobby, offering personal space while waiting for appointments.
The ground floor is entirely dedicated to serving clients, with consultation and meeting rooms, a client computer lab, a mental health facility and a kitchen with freezers stocked with emergency meals. A large conference room can be used as one space or divided into two smaller areas. Additionally, the floor features alternative courts with separate entries for after-hours appointments, accommodating 13 staff members and up to 40 visitors.
Public artwork funded by MAPS 4’s 1% public art requirement will also be prominently displayed. This feature not only adds to the facility’s aesthetic appeal but also connects clients and staff to the broader community.
A Purpose-Built Space for Staff and Growth
For staff, the new facility offers a significant upgrade. A separate entrance leads directly to a spacious second-floor work area, designed to foster collaboration while offering flexibility for future growth. The open office layout includes administrative and partner workstations, a generous breakroom, a small outdoor patio, mother’s rooms and additional staff support spaces. The adaptable design ensures the facility can easily evolve as Diversion Hub’s partner agencies expand or change.
Room for Future Growth
Looking ahead, the south lawn area provides approximately 16,000 square feet for future development, ensuring that Diversion Hub will have the capacity to grow alongside the needs of Oklahoma County’s justice system.
The new Diversion Hub facility will stand as a beacon of hope, creating a supportive environment for individuals as they work to build brighter futures. Through this thoughtfully designed space, Diversion Hub continues to transform lives and make a lasting impact on the community.
