A Fortune 500 technology company partnered with REES to create a more connected, functional first impression in their lobby and dining hall. The design reflects a broader effort to align the space with the company’s corporate headquarters 1,200 miles away. REES-designers reworked the layout of support spaces on the first and second floor to support more secure access, improve circulation as well as provide flexible spaces that better serve employees and clients.
A New Arrival Experience
The lobby establishes an organized, intuitive entry into the building. Updated security requirements introduce multiple controlled access points. A glass wall opens views into the campus beyond, which allows visitors to connect visually with the activities inside. This transparency continues through a secondary internal lobby, creating a natural transition between public and secure areas. Positioned near key meeting spaces, it functions as a breakout area with modular, adaptable furniture. Circulation between the lobby and dining area is now clearer and more direct. Previously disconnected spaces now function as a cohesive sequence, improving wayfinding and creating a stronger sense of continuity across the first-floor experience.
Spaces Designed for Flexibility
The dining environment supports a range of activity throughout the day, from quick meals during staggered shifts to large group meetings and presentations. A mix of seating options allows the space to adapt to different needs without disrupting flow. Smaller tables, booth seating and a central bar-height counter create flexibility. Lighting and ceiling elements help define zones within the open plan, offering variation without dividing the space. Beyond the main dining area, touchdown zones and built-in seating niches provide options for focused work, quieter breaks or small group interaction.
Material selections support performance and the atmosphere. Wood slat ceilings and wall accents introduce warmth, extending a material palette used at the client’s headquarters to create a sense of continuity across locations. Durable finishes respond to high daily use. Additional support spaces, including restrooms, a coffee bar and second-floor break room, were also refreshed to align with the overall design direction and create a more consistent campus experience.
