Bethany Children’s Health Center is a leader in pediatric rehabilitation and complex care. It provides services to thousands of children every year. Rising demand for their outpatient services and expertise has caused them to outgrow their space, potentially leaving children without the care they need. To alleviate their growing wait list, Bethany Children’s Health Center asked REES to design a new outpatient facility on their campus in Bethany, Oklahoma.

The four-story, 210,000-square-foot Outpatient Tower will double their current operating space and provide access for more children. The center features areas for outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services. The expanded advanced technology and seat lab designs custom wheelchairs for patients, providing a personalized solution that enhances mobility, comfort and independence. The ground floor accommodates community support services, including a multipurpose room that will provide an immersive theater experience and a conference room that will drive collaboration and training. These features not only bolster Bethany Children’s commitment to comprehensive care but also further solidify its national reputation as a leader in pediatric rehabilitation.

Our design team worked in collaboration with Storyland Studios to create a joyful themed experience for those receiving services. Located along Route 66, the teams integrated imagery and icons from the historic route into the public-facing areas and clinical healthcare spaces. Children that may never get to travel can visit the Blue Whale of Catoosa, Arizona’s green dinosaurs and the Santa Monica pier. Outside the facility, a four-story caterpillar structure, fondly named “Cal”, spans the hospital’s entrance. This landmark structure along the route symbolizes the journey of transformation and growth each patient will experience during their time at the Bethany Children’s Health Center.
