WPLG

Vibrant Broadcast Facility Built to Withstand the Strongest Hurricane

The architecture of the 60,000-square-foot WPLG facility includes strong vertical and intersecting linear elements with a large circular feature creating a dramatic curved two–story lobby. Because the facility is located in Miami, Florida, a hurricane-prone area, the team was challenged to develop the exterior building architecture with a restricted palette of materials and strict regulations on the use of glass. The design team provided a central hub of activity in the lobby, staff lounge and newsroom with natural light filled corridors. The building design also includes an architectural stair connecting the first and second floors.
