Small Renovations Can Make a Big Impact
In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, facilities must continuously adapt to patient expectations, new technologies and code standards. Whether it’s updating outdated areas or rethinking workflows, even small-scale renovations drive meaningful change. At REES, we work with healthcare organizations to create custom solutions utilizing our expertise and collaborative process, no matter the size of the project.
Here’s a closer look at how our approach makes a difference.
Why Small Renovations Matter
Targeted renovations can transform patient experience or operations with minimal disruption and cost. For example, the original check-in desk at Baylor, Scott and White’s Family Medical Center in Waxahachie featured full glass windows that created a barrier between staff and visitors. This design felt impersonal and uninviting. It limited opportunities for interaction and created a disconnect from the waiting area. We removed the windows to open the space. Patients now enter an inviting and approachable waiting area. The new layout also enhances the check-in experience. Clinic staff are able to better communicate and create a welcoming atmosphere.

Delivering Results
Our proven process weaves close collaboration with developing a deep understanding of each client’s unique needs. When you work with us, you’ll see the project take shape through:
- Discovery – Focuses on defining outcomes, capturing the vision and specifying the unique requirements.
- Programming – Translates the criteria into a functional plan that outlines the physical spaces required to support both the clinical operations and patient care.
- Planning – Brings the details to life by creating detailed floor plans that validate the project’s costs, benefits and timelines.
At Covenant Hospital in Plainview, Texas, their old surgical unit frequently reached capacity. REES designed a phased renovation and expansion to optimize the facility while minimizing disruptions to patients and staff. The new 22,000-square-foot department doubles its previous space with six large operating rooms, 10 pre-op spaces and 11 recovery areas. Through our process, we developed a tailored design that transformed their surgical unit into a state-of-the-art facility supporting their goals and growth.
