Barnes and Noble is rebranding bookstores, including their Southern Methodist University location. The campus bookstore is prominently situated in an upscale Dallas neighborhood, posing the challenge of attracting the neighborhood demographic as well as students. REES’ design worked to carefully balance school spirit with an upscale environment.
We opened the space with exposed ceilings and departmentalized store brands. A new three-dimensional light fixture of the school’s mascot creates a unique wow factor for the store’s atrium. Community tables, meeting spaces and individual seating are located throughout, inviting visitors to stay, read and lounge.
