Renovated Bookstore For SMU Increases Appeal and Sales
Challenged to increase sales and provide a more shopper-friendly environment, Barnes & Noble College Booksellers needed to renovate their 23,000 square foot SMU location. To accomplish these goals, the store’s floorplan was completely reconfigured. Barriers between the textbook and retail sections were removed, and focal destinations were created at the end of each new double-width aisle. Additionally, the café was relocated to a prominent position in front. Its new location adjacent to the storefront glass, along with the addition of outside umbrellas, has directly resulted in an increase in sales. Mindful of cost restraints, the project team sought creative ways to re-use fixtures, including revitalizing existing shelves through the addition of new cherry-finish end panels.
