Key Elements
Level II NICU in north central Oklahoma to provide advanced neonatal services close to home; ten private rooms for families and loved ones; calming, comforting design touches
When Stillwater Medical Center set out to expand its Women’s Health Services, the plan was simply to update the postpartum rooms and create a new labor and delivery unit. But as the project unfolded, a deeper need came to light. Families in Stillwater and the nearby rural areas did not have access to specialized neonatal care. If a baby needed extra support after delivery, they were flown over 60 miles to Oklahoma City or Tulsa. Parents and newborns were suddenly separated during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
The new OnCue Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) changes that reality. This 2,705-square-foot Level II NICU sits on the same floor as the Women’s Health Center, bringing mothers and babies closer together and ensuring advanced care is always within reach.
A Calming Place for Life’s First Moments
The NICU includes ten private rooms, one of which is large enough for twins. Each room is designed with both providers and families in mind. Clinical staff have immediate access to equipment, storage and technology for care, while families have comfortable seating so they can remain close. Spacious layouts allow providers to move freely while parents stay connected to their newborns.
Soft lighting, natural finishes and gentle colors create an atmosphere that feels more like home than hospital. The soothing, intentional atmosphere helps families feel supported as they spend time in the NICU. Beyond patient rooms, the unit supports the staff with medication prep areas, workspaces and a glass-front supply storage for efficient care delivery.
A Lasting Impact on the Community
The OnCue NICU changes what is possible for families across north central Oklahoma. Babies born as early as 32 weeks can now receive specialized care close to home, surrounded by the people who matter most. Families no longer face the stress of separation or the burden of travel, and providers can deliver advanced neonatal services where they are needed most.
For Stillwater Medical Center and the families it serves, the OnCue NICU represents hope for life’s most fragile beginnings.
