Activity Center Drives Community Support for Seniors

Location

Sulphur Springs, Texas

Size

11,000 square feet

Committed to serving residents of all ages, the City of Sulphur Springs, Texas wanted to improve the outdated senior citizen center for their citizens. REES responded with a design for an 11,000-square-foot building that provides a space to gather and thrive. The new senior activities center features several amenities, including a spacious multi-purpose room, meeting rooms, craft space and a library. These facilities provide a welcoming environment for seniors to engage and connect. Daily meals are prepared in the commercial kitchen through Meal A Day, a local nonprofit dedicated to serving homebound seniors in the area. This collaborative effort ensures the nutritional needs of seniors are met and fosters a sense of community support.

Funded through the Texas Community Resiliency Program as part of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the center not only enhances the quality of life for seniors but also serves as a resource for the community’s resiliency efforts. In times of emergency, the center will serve as a shelter, furthering its importance in promoting community well-being and safety. The Sulphur Springs center is the first project to be completed with this grant program.
