Women’s Health Center offers previously unavailable services to North Central Oklahoma
Driven by the community’s demand for comprehensive women’s healthcare, Stillwater Medical Center sought significant improvements to the main facility’s obstetrical unit. Recognizing their capacity limitations, they asked REES to design a unit that efficiently cared for not only mothers and newborn babies, but also the physicians, nurses and medical staff. The 14,000-square-foot addition plus 11,400 square feet of renovations greatly expand Stillwater’s capacity of care. It offers previously unavailable services to Stillwater and the surrounding region.
The Women’s Health Center features labor and delivery rooms, postpartum rooms, a caesarean section suite, a Level 2 NICU, individual triage rooms, an expanded reception room, holding nursey and on-call sleeping room.
Caring for Newborns Across the Region
Within the Women’s Center, a 10-bed, Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) supports babies born at 32 weeks or later and newborns requiring continuous care. Located across from the caesarean suite, access is quick and seamless to the advanced care it provides. Partnering with OU Children’s, infants can receive services close to home rather than being airlifted to a major metropolitan area. This enables families to stay together after delivery, increasing positive outcomes for babies and mothers.
Improving Patient Care
Postpartum rooms now offer private shower facilities and updated equipment for enhanced newborn monitoring. The larger, more inviting spaces accommodate loved ones supporting mothers. The opportunity for a patient to stay in the same room from delivery to discharge is more common than before, elevating the birthing experience for new mothers and their newborns.
The Women’s Health Center showcases Stillwater Medical Center’s commitment towards innovation and patient comfort. This expansion eliminates the need for locals to travel over 100 miles for care. By extending services to the citizens of Stillwater and North Central Oklahoma, Stillwater Medical Center serves as a central hub for advanced medical care in the region.
